چکیده

319 From 1987 to the present our Cuban Centre has performed more than 30 foetal nigral transplants to the striatum in patients with Parkinson's disease. To study the improvement reported in dopaminergic drug response and the decrease L-Dopa daily dose together with better motor performance /1/, the present pharmacological trial was applied to four Parkinsonian patients, who underwent stereotactic implan-tations of foetal ventral mesencephalon dissociated cells.

Improvement in Signs of Parkinson's Disease in Rats Following Transplantation of Embryonic Stem Cells

Purpose: Parkinson's disease is a degenerative disease produced by the death of dopaminergic neurons, and the response to current treatments is varied. It is important to develop a model for the evaluation of ES cells as an alternative model for treatment. Materials and Methods: The model for PD was developed in rats. First, ES cells were transplanted into experimental models in three groups: ...

Glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor-supplemented hibernation of fetal ventral mesencephalic neurons for transplantation in Parkinson disease: long-term storage.

OBJECT Transplantation of fetal dopaminergic tissue is being investigated in animal models and clinical trials for its potential as a treatment for advanced Parkinson disease. At the same time, the availability of fetal tissue is limited, making its storage time prior to transplantation a key practical issue. Although it results in a smaller percentage of surviving cells. a longer storage time ...

Fetal stem cell transplantation: Past, present, and future.

Since 1928, human fetal tissues and stem cells have been used worldwide to treat various conditions. Although the transplantation of the fetal midbrain substantia nigra and dopaminergic neurons in patients suffering from Parkinson's disease is particularly noteworthy, the history of other types of grafts, such as those of the fetal liver, thymus, and pancreas, should be addressed as there are m...

Bilateral human fetal striatal transplantation in Huntington's disease.

BACKGROUND Transplanted striatal cells have been demonstrated to survive, grow, establish afferent and efferent connections, and improve behavioral signs in animal models of Huntington's disease (HD). OBJECTIVE To evaluate feasibility and safety and to provide preliminary information regarding the efficacy of bilateral human fetal striatal transplantation in HD. METHODS Seven symptomatic pa...

Intrauterine xenotransplantation of human Wharton jelly-derived mesenchymal stem cells into the liver of rabbit fetuses: A preliminary study for in vivo expression of the human liver genes

Objective(s): End-stage hepatic failure is a potentially life-threatening condition for which orthotopic liver transplantation is the only effective treatment. However, a shortage of available donor organs for transplantation each year results in the death of many patients waiting for liver transplantation. Xenotransplantation, or the transplantation of cells, tissues, or organs between differe...
